I am using the following website as an example because it's a problem that I've had as well.

Whenever I create a new centered layout, and give the wrapper a margin: 0 auto; it shifts to the right or left. But once I've added more content in the article, the layout straightens itself out.

    Here's the example:

    Page with less content: http://michelf.ca/software/

    Page with more content: http://michelf.ca/blog/

What is the best way to correct this problem?

The only thing I can see is a slight shift that would be caused by the disappearing scrollbar when the content is too short to necessitate one. if that's what you're talking about, then there's really not much you can do about that other than to create reams of content.
