    ive just, well nearly finished lol (if that makes sense ops my new website design. Now the background to the whole page is a gradient.

    How do you save such image and use it as a bacground that will load quick and look ok lol

    You could either use photoshop or CSS3.

    Don't use a background at all unless your client requires you to do so.
    Try everything to talk them out of it.

    Backgrounds are distracting, and make it harder to read content.

    If it's a simple gradient, it's not bad. This website uses it.

    Kayo's got the right idea with the CSS. There's really no need to use an image for that. Browser support for gradients is pretty deep, though the vendor prefixes you'll need are pretty ridiculous.

    I'm talking about backgrounds in the actual content areas.
    Backgrounds like this site uses are fine. They don't get in
    the way of text.

    Ive done it with a nice small image on repeat. it is also very suttle like the background of this page.
