My catpin.com site. I have hundreds of files for experimenting with scripts, example scripts, all kinds of things I use to see how scripts work. It's my place to play around and see how things work.

    Your chess files ...

First create a new directory on your website called "chess".
Use FileZilla (FTP program) to upload all of the unzipped files to that directory.
And there are a lot of files (like 800?). Most of them are graphics for the boards and pieces.

You'll just upload the whole thing (all of the unzipped files) just as they appear. I hope you're using FileZilla FTP to upload files to your website?

When you get it all uploaded, let me know.

I realize now that the scripting on this chess program requires MySQL database. Your webhost has that, but you'll somehow need to learn how to set up a database. I don't know how to show you that since only you can do it on your own site.

I think I'll upload the whole thing (like you) and see if I can get it work before I open my mouth.

When I get it working myself, I can probably describe things easier.
For now, just get it all uploaded and you can do a test by doing this:
    http://www.1776infowarrior.com/chess/chess.html
    or ...
    http://www.1776infowarrior.com/chess/chess-demo-2.html

The games won't load because you don't have a MySQL database, but you'll know if the
    scripts and graphics loaded OK.

"I hope you're using FileZilla FTP to upload files to your website?" I am now using Filezilla, in the past I was just using the upload button within the cleaverdot control panel to upload files from my computer to the public_HTML folder.

"When you get it all uploaded, let me know." All files from: "dhtml-chess.zip" are unzipped and uploaded and saved in the "chess" directory within the Public_HTML folder.

"For now, just get it all uploaded and you can do a test by doing this:
"http://www.1776infowarrior.com/chess/chess.html" Loading this page worked perfectly.
"http://www.1776infowarrior.com/chess/chess-demo-2.html" Loading this page worked perfectly minus an "hourglass/loading game please wait" icon appearing(see uploaded image "3chess"). It wouldn't go away.

"I realize now that the scripting on this chess program requires MySQL database. Your webhost has that, but you'll somehow need to learn how to set up a database." Thanks to the instructional video: "MySQL Database Tutorial - 3 - Creating a Database": , I clicked on "MySQL Databases" link in my Cleverdot control panel and tested it out by creating a database. Then I went into the "phpMyAdmin" tab within the Cleverdot control panel and got familiarized by importing a table.

"My catpin.com site. I have hundreds of files for experimenting with scripts, example scripts, all kinds of things I use to see how scripts work. It's my place to play around and see how things work." On your website, www.catpin.com, minus the two instructional how to scripts, regarding the bubble test and the card trick, I didn't see any other files (I uploaded the image named catpin3).

    Most appreciative,
    Mike

So I see now that the MySQL database is for another purpose, but you may need it later.
It's good that you are learning about MySQL now. You will be using it.

    If you go here:
    http://www.1776infowarrior.com/chess/chess.html

    Now click your PGN tab.
That loads a PGN file into the game.
Those files are located in the directory called "pgn".

I think that is what you will be doing?
You will create "pgn" files to demonstrate opening moves?

You can create your own pgn file and add it to the pgn directory.
And you can delete the other ones if you want.

So you have some options of different tables, pieces.

The first part I mentioned "chess-demo-2.html" pertains to the part that never loads.
That is what the MySQL database is for. I think it is to actually play someone online.
You can deal with that later.

For now, play with the "pgn" files in the "pgn" directory.
Create your own and locate it on the PGN tab.
    http://www.1776infowarrior.com/chess/chess.html

Let me know if the pgn portion is what you're looking for at this time.
And if you are looking for that pgn thing and you like how it works, that will
be the portion of the chess script that you will utilize on your main website.

Once you determine that ... set it aside and start working on your website
in your main directory. Come back to the chess thing later on.

    ========

oh, and my website is all you see. The other stuff is what I use personally for my own use.
That was the point I was making. You can use your website for other things, not just web pages.

    EDIT ...

I don't know why your PGN files don't work:
    http://www.1776infowarrior.com/chess/chess.html

    It works on my website:
    http://www.catpin.com/chess/chess.html

Maybe you didn't upload all of the directories?

    ALSO:
I will be moving this thread to PHP.
This will become a PHP topic.

    It works on my website:http://www.catpin.com/chess/chess.html"

I am getting the chess.html page to show up with no problems except when I hit the PGN tab, then select a game, I get a blank screen within the games tab (see uploaded image 01). It worked perfectly on your catpin site.

When I go to: http://www.1776infowarrior.com/chess/chess-demo-2.html I am getting an hourglass/please wait message. (See uploaded image 3chess)

I deleted my chess folder in my public_html directory. Deleted the folder off my computer. I re-downloaded the zipped folder then transferred the unzipped files via FileZilla back to my Public_HTML folder. It still is doing the same thing.

    Much appreciative,
    Mike

don't worry about the demo 2 yet .. that is the "live" feed ... not important now.

    Deal with the pgn part.

If you want, email me through my catpin site, i can access your site and see what is wrong .. assuming you are ok with emailing me your ftp login.
