When I open the wamp download, then lots of folders and files open. I click on a some files, like index.php or www. then a pop up window appears saying File Scout.
It says what do you want to do, and gives me 2 options.
    a. search web for software that can open your file.
    b. Open using already installed software

I click on the second Option.
    then click on internet explorer.

the file opens with lots of code.
Do I do this for each file. which ones exactly and how do I test my site actually.
The video doesnt help. The icon is pink, not orange or green like the video says.
    and 12. doesnt come up,
cause on the video, it says change the 80 t0 8080 if the icon is orange.

If I type in http://localhost in the browser, http://google just comes back on. and the browser window just says Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.

Im trying to test my website for errors, cause the first page didnt come up correctly on the server. the text went below the background, and on the left.

I use Xamp. Not sure if the process is the same, but here goes:

    1. Install Xamp.
    2. Find your server folder (in xamp, it's "htdocs")
    3. Start your server, run both apache and mysql (if you have a db attached).
    4. Look up localhost/your folder. Or the server may have it's own IP, which happened when I used Easy PHP.

    Hope that helps.

Do you download the "source" files or the windows executable ?

From what you're saying, sounds like you downloads the source files.

WAMP needs to be installed to set everything up.

You didn't mention what OS you're running either. There are some differences, but it usally creates a folder on the root of the OS drive if your install runs correctly.

Inside there are a number of folders one called WWW is the root of the web service.

If you did run the installer and the tray icon is present but not green... Right click on the tray icon... "Start WAMP"... Once it turns green, right click again, click on "apache"... Or open your browser to this the the local loopback IP address of any windows machine.

When the page opens you will see a list of folders or projects ....

If you place a folder in the previously mentioned folder c:\wamp\www

It will show up in this list once you start apache.
