I have some people who want me to make their websites for them. I'm trying to determine how much to charge them. After doing some research, I see a wide array of different answers and amounts.

So my question is how much would YOU personally charge someone for you to make a website for them using a Wordpress theme for either their self or their business. Something like this:

    or this

Both of the sites you have linked to as examples are custom themes, made specifically for the client in each case.

When I am presented with a purchased theme to customize for a client, I charge less than if I create a unique theme from scratch, because it takes less time.

What I charge for a custom theme depends on what is required - the Salt Lake site has several different page layouts, with changeable sidebars, and quite a few specialized elements - a news scroller, property search, multiple area maps, etc. This is a more complex site that the one for the doctor, and so would cost more.

I have done this for long enough to be able to estimate fairly well how long a job will take me - I then do some simple math:
Hours to do the job (times) my hourly rate (plus) 20% for non-programming time spent.

Since the hourly rate will vary depending on where you are and how big your market is, it's hard to put a definite price on it.
