Hi! I'm planning on starting an online business but I need to know a few things about the cost of designing a website. Specifically, I'm curious as to how companies operate a website that requires new updates every day.
A person like me with a very small budget can't afford a web designer to work for me every day. However, I would need to keep my website current each day. If it were simple text then I could do it myself but there are pictures involved which require more coding rather than just body text.

    What options do I have?

Is it possible to design a website that I can update on my own? I'm thinking of something like a form with "Upload Image" that would automatically resize the image for me.

What you're looking for is called a "CMS", or "Content Management System". Simply put, it's a way for you to be able to manage your content yourself without the need for a designer.

I believe this is something one of WordPress or Joomla can handle, as I believe each has a gallery plugin, but I don't work in either so I couldn't say (I build my own because I've been doing it for years and I have significant issues with the prebuilt ones). If not, it's fairly simple to build a site that will include a gallery and the ability to update pictures.

But to answer your question with a yes or no, yes it is possible.

Yeah, I messed around with templates of the sort and I always run into some serious conflicts. CMS sounds like what I'm looking for. So, you're saying that I can either find a pre-built template or I can have a web designer create a website based on a type of CMS platform that I can manage myself post-launch?

    Thank you for your input.

Yes, and yes. That is exactly what i'm saying. It's really up to you. Isn't it good to have choices?

Or if you want to take a few minutes... Most decent hosting companies offer WP ( Wordpress, joomla and several other ) CMS packages ... That after answering a few questions... You can setup your own... Add or change templates on... Or if your hire someone to make a theme for you... You can update it yourself.

And yes, they all pretty much allow you to make "post" daily... Add or edit images... Etc.

It may seem a little overwhelming... But if you take it in a little at a time... It usually doesn't take a lot of effort to learn.

Describe more about your business. Will you be doing anything other than uploading and displaying images? Will there be like a place where people pick (shopping cart) and purchase things? What is your goal?
