    Hi,

Sorry for the awkward title, but the thing I'm trying to do, I don't know what it's called.

When you search for "McDonalds," you see Mcdonalds.com as the first page, and then several child pages beneath it. I would like to know what exactly that's called and how I can achieve that. This is actually education that's long overdue for me.

    I'd appreciate any solutions.

They're called Sitelinks, and unfortunately the solution is that there is no solution.

They're generated algorithmically by Google based on whatever query the user enters. If the user enters something whereby Google deems that one site is the best resource possible for the topic, the Sitelinks are generated. There's no way to add Sitelinks...only to delete them through Webmaster Tools if you feel something presented is irrelevant for your site.

    Yup, what he said.

If you have a niche site, you tend to get those quite quickly and easily. If you search by the site name and you've done everything eight "within googles scope"... You may actually see them on those search results ( I see them on 3-4 of every site I rework... Within a couple months ), but some are a real bear to get listed that way... IE... Travel sites in particular, because the Internet is so saturated with results from the big names to small mom and pop sites to COC sites... To... There's so much saturation, travel sites are not impossible, but I suspect they take a really long time to build a rep with google.

And, yes, that is a question I get all the time from clients and potential clients.

Off-topic - what's a COC site? When I Googled the term it gave me the Canadian Opera Company!?!

    Thanks .

Update: by the way, it's funny how some things are random or you have to wait a bit for it. I just recently started using Google Authorship (where your face is attached to Google results). Despite the fact that my blog is a big PHP template where all code aside from content is the same, only a handful of images are coming up with me as the Google author. Odd.

there is no such solution for this, the point is how well you portray your site before google. these are auto generated links..when Google algo feels that the site is ultimate solution for the search query and all your pages best explain the search query than Google show the site links. if its not showing it does not mean that you got any problem with your site.
