    Hi everyone

I'm building a website where my client needs a login for one of his major clients so that they can access a PDF that shows their products. This is a page that only this particular client should be able to access.

I can do this easily in a CMS but it seems a bit heavyweight for what is a very simple site (apart from the login).

Can anyone suggest the simplest way to do this? Although I'm very proficient at html and css, I don't know how to write PHP or Javascript etc. So if mentioning any of these other techniques please bear this in mind.

    Many thanks
    Monique

Even a CMS won't help you in this case, and here's why...a PDF is a downloadable document. That means that as soon as your client's client logs in, the client's client can get the PDF and do pretty much whatever they want with it, including sharing it accidentally or by design with the rest of the world. So if your client only wants his client in turn to access it, the PDF would need to be converted to HTML.

So before you go any further, you may want to check with your client as far as whether he wants to release the document as a PDF in the first place.

Thanks for responding. That wouldn't be an issue - it's just that they don't want other clients to have access because it's not relevant to them as it's branded for this particular client. It wouldn't matter if someone else did come across it by chance but it shouldn't be accessible via a click on the website to site visitors.

Okay...as long as the client is okay with it potentially being released by his client into the wild (and things do happen), then something like this might do the trick (and I don't know if this is a good script because I'm not a PHP guy...I work primarily in Windows stuff):

Many thanks - I was hoping to have some code that didn't require mysql but will try and give it a go - I'll probably learn a lot doing this which is always a bonus!

Just password protect the directory using .htaccess and .htpasswd. It's very simple.
