Dreamweaver CS5 help - background being pushed down by inserted image

    Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum and could really do with some advice please. I've always built simple sites using HTML templates and my knowledge is extremely out of date. I'm trying to teach myself CSS with The Missing Manual, and am trying to build a site, using CSS for the first time, in DW CS5.

I successfully added a background image to the .container with text over the top. but when I added a floating right aligned image to the text, the background image appears to be pushed down in the Safari preview. It looks as though it is in the correct place in the design view though. Am sure there is something I should be doing with the text image to stop it pushing the background out of place, but I have no idea what. Please can someone advise me?

Thank you. Any help gratefully received as it's driving me nuts!

First of all, don't use design view. It is misleading and because it writes the code as you place things, it often writes wrong or poorly constructed code, so it doesn't help you learn to code properly.

I have a hunch that DW has placed the floated image outside the container - and the container should be a div with an id rather than a class - could you post a link or perhaps your code?
Good design should never say "Look at me!"

If you feel that someone's post helped you fix your problem, answered your question, or just made you feel better, feel free to "Like" their post. The "Like" link is at the bottom right of each post, along side the "reply" link. And if you are being helped here, try to help someone else - pass it on!

Yup, I can attest to that...

if you're using missing manual you should only be using DW in "code view"... Turn "design view" completely OFF.

DW in code view, will automatically close a div and insert a new one for you... There is a process where DW can an will insert nested DIVS... But its still hit or miss... This is just one reason I quit using design view in DW 7-8 years ago... Having DW write your code for you is OK... Until its not.
