Web designers who have worked with developers, how was your experience?

    Hi,

I'm currently a graphic design student researching the "designer-developer" relationship and how/if it's evolved since the 1990's when this interaction was fairly new.

What was your experience like working with a developer? How can we improve the relationship (in necessary)?

If you could fill out this survey, I would be more than grateful.
Survey here: Designer-Developer Relationships: Designer Survey

EDIT: I definitely want the developer's opinion, too! Developer Survey
Any stories or anecdotes you have are very helpful for my research as well, so please discuss!
    Thank you!

Do you want it from the other side?

I can't do the survey because I do web development and I work with graphic designers (not necessarily web designers). They do layouts and graphics for clients and then ask me to do the programming part to make the site a reality. The answer to your question is really about how well they communicate.

There are other factors as well ...

    1) Can both of them multitask?
    2) Both sides require things to be done at a particular time or in a timely manner. Do both of them do that?
    3) Do both sides return emails and calls quickly?
    4) Are both of them willing to take any constructive criticism from the other, putting their egos aside?
    5) Whoever is in control of the money ... does the other side get paid in a timely manner?

In only one case have I met one of the the graphic designers in person ... it's all been online, around the world. Sometimes it is one website, other times it is a series of projects.

I most definitely want both opinions! I actually have two separate surveys, but wasn't sure what replies I would get from this forum.
