    Questions for new clients

What types of questions do you ask your new clients when about to start a project for them? Any questions important or not, what do you ask? Im trying to get an idea of what i need to ask? Even if it may be common sense to you please include it, i may be over looking some of the simple stuff, i tend to do that when trying to do these type of things

Question 1: have you ever been convicted of a felony?

Question 2: if yes to 1), was it for something cool and understandable like possession of weed or resisting arrest from an overbearing police officer, or did you actually do something wrong?

Question 3: who is your favorite mainstream media personality?

Question 4: have you ever tried to Occupy anything?

Question 5: do you own merchandise from any of the following sports teams:

    Jacksonville Jaguars
    Chicago Cubs
any NHL team, since as we all know the NHL absolutely sucks and Gary Bettman is an a-hole
New York Yankees, especialy any merchandise pertaining to A-Rod

Question 6: have you ever referred to a DJ as a musician?

Question 7: what do you press whenever you are presented with a voice menu by a company?

    1 for English
    0 for the operator
911 because you're in a hurry and you hope this will activate priority sequence
Pour le service en francais, cette le DUH!

Basically, what I'm trying to say is that I don't have a set list of questions I ask every client. It depends on who they are and what they want to accomplish. Then I tailor any questions / solutions to their needs. That's not to say I don't ask questions...that's to say I treat clients like snowflakes. No two are alike.

I understand that, but i do believe that there are some standard questions most ppl ask? If not i guess i am over thinking.

I am building my own site and i am completely stuck.. Not on the coding but on the design process. And i feel like i am stuck because im not asking myself the right questions

Theses are the questions you should be asking yourself:

    • Do I actually need a website?
    • If so, what do I need a site for?
    • What do I want the site to do?
    • Who do I want to attract to the site?
    • What do I want the visitors to the site to do?

Start there - the answers will start you on the path to designing a site that does what you want/need it to do.
Good design should never say "Look at me!"
It should say "Look at this." ~ David Craib

I'm discovering many clients (or small businesses) need a website, not a web page. And there is a difference ...

They need an online place to handle content that can be retrieved, modified, and moved around by anyone or anyplace in the world. Their website is about information, not web pages. In fact, some clients only have a single log-in page for themselves. Once logged-in, they are placed in an admin area where there are scripts and pages for them to manipulate content. Basically, their website is a private cloud.

Their clients and customers then use an API to access the information that my client holds on their website. I also write the API's and the widgets that their customers use via their smartphones or tablets. Again, it's not really about web pages at all. Some of the online apps are plain white pages with black text and no graphics at all. The only important stuff is the information they are accessing.

So, that's just another thing to think about when clients are asking about a website.
