What type of language/knowledge do I need to know for this?

    Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum and web design and I have an idea for a website. The website will have weekly new content (images and text). I'm having trouble finding the answer on Google, but I want to know the following two things:

    1. Do I need to know SQL to store my content? or can I just input images directly into Dreamweaver every time I want to update? is one more efficient than the other? I have no knowledge in SQL and when it's really needed, so help in this area would be great.

    2. Once I have enough data and visits, I want to be able to track the popularity of each item. ie. clicks. Then, I want to be able to sort the items accordingly. Is there some special language I need to know to achieve this? say PHP? again, I have no idea when PHP is even needed/useful.

I just need to be pointed in the right direction and I'll do all the learning once I know where I need to go.

Yeah. You pretty much have it. You'll need a backend language and a database. PHP and SQL are perfectly good options.
