    Visual Web Developer Express is more for websites. Visual Studio Express is more for applications. So you'll probably want to start with VWDE.

    Major weakness though, depending on how often you use it (and I use it very rarely)...it's not a very good PHP editor. Then again, PHP isn't a Windows technology.

    ok so the first three you mentioned, the variations of the .net are the server side languages?

    For now, just concentrate on creating a simple HTML/CSS web page without any server-side scripting. You have to be able to use FileZilla and Notepad++ to edit simple HTML scripts and move them back and forth between your PC and your website.

    Learn that part first. Don't worry about the Windows Server at this point.

    You have bigger fish to fry right now.
