    In the CSS style tags, here is a little lesson on how to decipher things.

    You'll see several different types of tag identifications ...

    #content{
    blah blah
    }
    The # symbol means ID ...
    So in this example, the style within { } will apply to the section of HTML indicated by <div id="content">
    Or, <input type="text" id="content" blah blah>

    .wrapper{
    blah
    blah
    }
    This one is a "class" (it starts with a period) ..
    So in this example, the style within { } will apply to a section of the HTML indicated by <div class="wrapper">
    Or, <a href="blah.blah" class="wrapper" ... blah blah>

    ul li{
    blah
    blah
    }
    This one is an HTML tag ... notice there is no period or # ...
    So in this example any tag that is <ul> along with <li> will take on the style within { }

    ul:vertical{
    blah
    blah
    }
    These would be a mix of HTML tags and tag properties.
    Another common one is...
    a.prettylink:hover{
    font-color:green;
    }

    <a href="blah.blah" class="prettylink">My Cars</a>
    In that example, only the link with the class "prettylink" will turn green when the mouse 'hovers' over the link.

    So in the list of stuff you "removed" and it still works ... it appears like you removed things related mostly to the page background. Probably because your background is different than the example, you don't notice the changes when you remove them.

    But what you're doing ... modifying code and seeing what happens, is going to teach you the most about HTML and CSS.
