    hover??

    why is the help and home button allowing hover but not the navbar? there both pretty much the exact same????

    always forgetting the links..... http://coleio.com/html/button.html

    But they're not the same.

    Home/Help buttons have the "a" selector set as display: block; with padding. That means the clickable area is expanded.

    The other links in the nav bar should be set as inline-block (so they can still remain on the same line) and you can add padding to increase the clickable area. You'll also need to restructure the CSS so the background gradient is applied to the links, not the parent list items.
