can i make HTML read only?

one of my friends messing around changed some words on one of my domains. Luckily its not active at all and it doesn't really matter. It got me thinking though, how can I prevent people from using the developer tools in a browser to change my website? He is in no way familiar with coding so it surprised me he knew he could do that.

Nope. The web is all about open source. Besides, it isn't like it can be saved to the server.

He can't change your website, at least the website you have online ... unless he knows the username and password for your website.

Does he know your website account login or FTP account login?

He can copy your HTML onto a computer and display it locally using a browser. At that time, he can change the HTML, but it's not on your website.

Hang on...did he change it and upload the changes to your site, or did he change it inside of his own browser and that was the end of it?
