Database type question, unsure how to proceed

I apologize if this can be found else where, I don't think my search query's were specific enough because I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for.

I run a blog regarding fantasy football - FANTASYFootballin.com | News & Blog for all things fantasy football in 2014!

One of the biggest portions of fantasy football week-to-week is actual NFL player rankings based on statistics, opponents, etc.

What I'm wanting to do on the website is have a database with most players information (100's, if not 1000's) and have a table in which I can easily adjust my personal rankings for the viewers. I would like to display a table with information such as "Top 10 Runningbacks", "Top 10 Wide Receivers", etc. Something where I login on tuesday mornings and simply "slide" a player from say rank #10, to rank #1, and not have to edit each line(or rank) in between as if it were a simple html rows/columns table. Save and walk away.

    2 things:

    1. Is there a company that would have this kind of technology ready for plug-and-play statistics, where I could call to their database and pay a price? I'm assuming that it would be close to impossible for me to insert 1000's of player names into an array or likewise.

    2. Am I overanalyzing the function here? Is there a way to create a quick access edit-able table for these kinds of rankings?

There's likely a service like this set aside just for fantasy football. Try Googling "fantasy football stats API" and see what you come up with. Just glancing over the search, I notice Yahoo has one. It wouldn't be overly difficult to pull the stats from such an API and display the top 10 from a given category. Keeping up with it yourself would be more of a pain than I'd guess you, or just about anyone for that matter, would be willing to endure.

You may also find an API or what you're after here.

I thought this is what I was looking for, but learning API seems to be a bit overhelming.

There wouldn't be an easier way than this.

Look at it this way...if you know PHP, then an API is just an extension of that. You connect to the API, you retrieve information, and then you disconnect. It's not as hard as a lot of it will seem at first. If you don't know a programming language, then yeah it's difficult.
