Question Web Design question. Please help

    Hello,
I am new to this forum. I am not a designer, I am an internet marketer. I wanted to start a new website and have a question.
If I build a site using wordpress (I have paid themes), after few years in the future, can I change the design and layout completely? What will happen to the content that I posted with my original theme. My goal is to build an authority site and I know it takes 1 to 2 years to start making any money. I wanted to go with a theme for which I already paid, hire a designer and customize it to my basic needs. In the future when I can invest more, I may want to change the design completely, but don't want to lose my content and rankings with search engines.

Any suggestions? Thank you very much for your time and input.

    1) Yes, you can.

    2) It's your content. Whether you keep it or not depends on whether you stick to WP (I wouldn't even start with it but if you do you're pretty much committed to it), whether you change your URL structure, etc. You want to build something you'll have to change as little as possible.

When you change a theme on WP, you are only changing the files in the "theme" directory. That means your MySQL database remains untouched. You may also be adding or deleting "plugins" as well. Some templates require plugins that other templates don't require. You could end-up with odd MySQL tables that have data you originally needed and used, but are not used in your new template. So you might install the plugin that is missing, but in some cases, you could have conflicting plugins.

Also, your "media library" does not change when you install a new template. So your photos and media remain. Again, losing or adding plugins may affect how your media library works. Plugins between one template theme and another, end-up being the worst part of changing themes. It depends on which plugins a particular theme require.

Thank you for your help. I will go with the theme I have and when I can afford, I will go with more elegant design.
