    Strange Page Views 24 hours

Very odd thing happened to me the other day, Not sure how, and I have been doing web design and running a lot of domains in the past 15 years, I am currently using a free hosting service supposed to be unmetered / unlimited bandwidth with no restrictions to web site traffic as in hits / page views per day
all of a sudden my site was slammed with 20,000 hits in 24 hours, and I had an email the next day from my host trying to sell me an upgraded account.I was like WOW really how could my domain that I just started working on have no page rank what so ever, barely even a few back links, google has just started index / crawling my site ...out of nowhere I some how get 20,000 hits, I have no awstats in my cpanel but the forum software I use shows a major jump in page views in it statistics

I think my host is up to something , trying to get me to purchase an upgrade from them from FREE to paid.
    not even legit
    my site:CMSLabs - Index

Do the search that domain is 1 I purchased last year, and never done any "real seo" on that site, athen all of a sudden slammed with all those "hits"

Bots. Chances are you're being bot slammed. There are quite a few rogue bots, including oddly enough some from the "SEO" space, doing a blitzkrieg as of late trying to find anything at all they can exploit. You're running Simple Machines Forum...therefore, you're a target.

If I'm right, then your host should take some action to block them. However, this requires two things:

    1) You need to prove the bots exist, what IPs/user agents they are, and what they're doing that's obviously bot-like.
    2) You need to hope the host understands and does something about it.

    1) has long odds, and if you're experienced with tracking down this sort of thing you can reduce it to "medium to medium-long odds".
    2) probably is a slim and none chance, with slim having just left the building. Most hosts tend not to take much, if any, action against bad bots even though doing so would save them a ton in terms of bandwidth charges alone. It's not a big issue right now. If you've got a free host, you're going to be put in "priority sequence" that way as well (translation: you get served after the paid people, if at all).

This also requires a Tier 2 support level of understanding from your host. For you or anyone else who may not be familiar with tech support tiers, Tier 1 is the front-line tech support. You call them if you can't figure out how to set up your email in Outlook or if you don't understand something in cPanel. Tier 2 is the level of support you get when the issue you're dealing with requires more than 6 working brain cells to figure out.

This might be a case where you have to bite the bullet, pay for paid hosting somewhere, and hope the host knows enough about rogue bots and takes them seriously enough to help you. As I said, though, it's not really a priority issue among hosts.

They're the only host I ever recommend for anything. They're up, and everyone else is down. Quite a few people on here use them as well and have been satisfied.
