Lightbulb Where Do I Go From Here

    Hello Everyone,

I have a really great idea for a website but I need some direction in which languages I need.

I know that I need HTML and CSS to build the structure of the website and style it. I am fine with that.

The type of website I want to build would be one where a user can come and post an entry and have it show up depending on which city they are in and then after a month, the entry would disappear.

Would I need JavaScript for that? where would I go from here after I have the CSS/HTML all figure out?

    Let me know!

    Thanks,
    JTragic

    You'd need a server-side programming language and a database.

PHP/MySQL or ASP or ASP.net/Access or MS-SQL are your major options. Personally, I prefer ASP.net/MS-SQL as I can do quite a bit of stuff with them and I personally can't stand PHP, but to each their own.

Your big issue is going to be monitoring what users post. People will post anything at any time for any reason and quite often no reason at all. You'll also have potential bot issues, but initially you probably won't.

    TheGAME1264,

Thanks for the insight. I have some experience with MySQL and ASP.net so I think that is the course I will be taking.

I have already thought about the posting issue and come up with some solutions that will work initially. I will have to plan for a larger audience if it becomes big.

Thanks again for your help. I will get to work.
