I can't talk for the design, as I'm not a web designer. I am, however, a web developer and I can say that I too charge $3,000+ per website.

$3,000 a website is actually low. Many websites go for $10,000, $15,000, and much more. The average for a simple website in the United States is around $6,000 to $7,000 a website.

You can also find developers that will make you a website for a couple of hundred dollars, but keep in mind that you will get what you pay for.
