    Simple one page website idea

    Hi everyone,
I would like to create a simple one page website in which one can type in a text and create a gif based on the text he wrote. However, to each character of the text a specific image is associated, so that the gif will just be the sequence of images associated to every character.

For instance, let's assume that this is the character-image correlation is
    a --> dog
    b --> sunset
    c --> house

and I type "cabba" in the box and execute, I should get an gif with these pictures coming up after every 2 seconds:
    0 sec: house
    2 sec: dog
    4 sec: sunset
    6 sec: sunset
    8 sec: dog

Is this realively easy to do?

    Thank you,
    Lorenzo

It would be a fairly easy Javascript to create, although I'm not sure why anyone would want to do something like that besides homework.

Three images, a textbox, and a function to retrieve and split the value into strings of one characters would do the trick.

Or using PHP along with javascripting.

Is what you're doing a real project, or is it something for homework or just for the heck of it?

It's an odd request, and we are just not sure what it could be about.

    Thanks to both of you!

Unfortunately I do not have any experience in coding. I have an idea for a website (of course using some specific pictures associated with every charachter), so it is not for the heck of it, nor for a homework, simply for something that I would like to make, but do not have the capability for doing it.

Is it too much to ask to any of you, or someone else, to code it for me? Then I could take care of copy/paste/editing it to fit the right picture and the right amount of time it should stay.

    Thank you in advance!

It's too much to ask it for free. We'll be happy to help you out, but if you want it done for you, you're going to have to hire it out.

Thank you, I had no idea of how hard it would have been.

How much do you think it would be for this job?

That depends a little on what you need. Do you need just the script? A decent developer could do that in a day, maybe 2. You're looking at anywhere from a couple to a few hundred bucks. Do you need the site designed and developed to go with it? You're talking significantly more.

And to clarify this some more ....

    Let's work-out some specifications:

    1) You'll only have 26 photos.
There will never be more than 26?
    Letters a-z

    2) The photos will appear on a page directly in the center and they will overwrite each other after specified time?
Are there any graphic transitions between photos? Like slide, fade, etc.

    3) Can the user stop the sequence at any time?

    4) Does the user enter the letters on the same page as the photo sequence?
    Example: cabba

    5) What happens after the last letter? Does it disappear, or repeat?

    6) Only you (the admin person) can upload the photos, not anyone else?

    7) The photos have no titles or captions ... just the photo?

    8) If two or more photos are the same (cabba, the 2 'b' together), is there any transition between the two that are the same, or do they just sit there for the total duration of seconds?

I also want to ask about the timing ...
You have them all in reference to the start (zero seconds) ...
    0
    2
    4
    6
    8
    etc.
So the first one shows, the next at 2 seconds, the next at 4 etc.

Would it be better to have the time reference indicate the length of time each photo shows.
    Example:
    2
    2
    3
    5
    1
So the first one shows for 2 seconds, the next for 2 seconds, the 3rd for 3 seconds, etc.

With your method, it might be possible for someone to do this:
    0
    2
    5
    2
    4
    Do you see the problem?
There are two photos both showing at the 2 second mark.
    That would not be possible.

I wanted to see how easy it would be to just display some images using a string of text.

So below is a link to my "proof of concept". The slide interval is fixed at 2 seconds per letter, but each letter can have its own time interval. Each letter is a separate PNG image (but could be GIF or JPEG).

It's a mix of PHP and JQuery.
