    good rersources

    im probably asking this too soon considering im only starting back end coding but does anyone have any good resources for learning how to host from my own computer? i.e. not using a hosting company like godaddy

    i know some of you will tell me not to but its something i want to do, any help is appreciated

    Depends on what you want to serve and what you have access to. I wouldn't open port 80 up to the world, but for localhost testing you can set up something like IIS and do what you need to from there.

    Another thing you'll want to keep in mind is your ISP's terms of service. This is one factor behind keeping port 80 closed...some residential ISPs don't allow "commercial services" such as hosting, even if you're just using it for testing purposes.

    thanks, i will be going with a business isp, the car forum im designing does have the potential to expand to other continents, so i want the option of hosting personally

    Then that's exactly what you don't want. A business class ISP, even a high-end one, won't handle the demands of even a moderately successful forum unless 1) you have high upstream and 2) it's stable. DSL and even high end cable won't cut it. You're talking about fibre, and fibre don't come cheap.

    If you're getting a business class ISP just to host a website, spend the money on a good host. You'll get it back in saved grief alone.
