whats the difference between a hosting service like godaddy and a cdn like cloudfare.com?
anyone got this?
You want no part of CloudFlare. Trust me on this. They're awful.
As far as the difference, CloudFlare as a CDN will take your "static" content from a host such as GoDaddy and "cache" it across several servers to try and speed up your page load times and take strain off of your server. Your JPGs, your PNGs, your CSS, your GIFs, etc. and so on. The problem with CloudFlare is that it's so bogged down and slow that it can make your entire site unreachable. You have to use their DNS servers, and sometimes they have issues. It's partly their business model in that they give away a chunk of their service for free, partly human nature..."hey, this is free? Let's abuse the **** out of it and never pay for it", and partly its use by torrent sites such as The Pirate Bay to try and mask their location and serve files more quickly.
So don't play with CloudFlare if you can avoid it.

so a cdn still needs a hosting site like godaddy, and sounds like its no good for web applications that deliver user specific content?
Go for godaddy specially if you have web apps. Been using it for years!
