    which is more commonly found in todays desktop, laptop and tablet, a harddrive or a ssd flash memory chip?

    feel free to correct me if my terminology is wrong

    Tablets and phones use solid state. Desktop and laptops are still more common to have standard hard drives. I say in about a year or so it will switch around.

    For PC hardware, SSDs are becoming more common, but mechanical hard drives are still the standard, since they're still considerably cheaper.

    No tablets have anything that's not solid state.

    SSD's are no doubt faster and preferred and will be the standard in next few years but the cost is still high. If you really want to install the ssd for performance purpose and the budget is getting out of hand, Get your hands on 128 gb of ssd and install the operating system in it and for the data and storage purpose, use the standard hdd.

    128 GB of SSD comes roughly at the same cost of 500gb HDD.
