I have a old html site that features static content, most pages are descriptions of hikes in Montana (montanahikes.com). I built the site myself in the late 90s so it is hopelessly out of date. I’m currently in the process of rebuilding the site on Wordpress. I need some very basic advice — should I set up my content as pages or posts?
Since it is how my current site works, I’m thinking I should post my content as pages. For the most part the page will never change. There is no timeliness involved and there is usually no need for me to revisit a page after it is published. It seems to me that this is the type of content that should be a page. However, with pages I don’t have the same options for archiving and displaying pages by tags. I’ve found plug ins that will allow me to add categories and tags to my pages but I am still missing much of the organizing and archiving advantages that come from tags.
After I convert the site I plan to add a blog and I will be adding a lot of additional content over the next couple of years. I’m thinking that I will publish new permanent content as pages with a blog post that will point to the page. Again, this could be a backwards way to do things — I’m just an old guy trying to figure this out.
I’m using Twenty Twenty as my theme and Gutenberg for page building.
I thought this would be a common issue but I have not been able to find any good suggestions or tutorials online.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
Bob
