    Indexes for simplifying data management

What does anyone of you know about indexes, indexing. And creating data structures of indexes to manage big data? ... ...

Trying to understand a "lineage of parts" that is a structure for indexing, and pertains file references into categories For Easier access. Since a format was needed to handle large amounts of content. An organizer shortened the list of files into groups and subgroups. Where the furthest subgroups had the files, and the segregations into categories broke up the content into smaller more manageable sections. That were only searched through their categories and not the whole thing file after file. Quicker file retreival was the goal with the index system. File links could be narrowed down to groups and subgroups. Which alone in each category contains less and more specific references than a batch file inventory.
