    Spped of a web page

I'm just looking at some ideas for websites and notice that some load faster than others.
Sometimes a web page with graphics seems to load faster than one without ... and I'm guessing this may be due to the service provider, but I could be wrong.
With all things being equal, how could I test the speed of a web page loading?
Is it the size (e.g. 40kB)? Or is this not correct?

You can use the google Page Speed Insights tool to see what might be causing your site to be slow and then they will suggest what you can do to fix the issues. Also Site speed comes down to multiple things such as Images not be properly sized or compressed, having unused bloated CSS and or Javascript, render blocking resources. Just test your site and see what they suggest and look into trying to accommodate their suggestions the best you can.

    Thanks for the response.
I was actually trying to test other websites and design one in a similar way.
Is there a website where I can test speeds, rather than suggestions.
I'm not proficient enough to revise CSS or Javascript.

Did you try the site speed checker tool by Google for other websites?

OK thanks I thought this may have been for the owner website.
I tried it and it seems to show some data, so I'll look into it further. Cheers.

Google page speed analyser is a good place to start.

also https://tools.pingdom.com provide a good tool, similar to google's version but will give you a "second opinion" along with allowing you to specify different servers to test from.

I use both this and google page analyser for on my IT solutions site https://sphereit.uk - still need improvement but with the 2 got it from 40 to 60 on googles scale quite easy.
