    Let's start by creating a new document in Macromedia Fireworks just to fit your photo (width & height) Import a photo from File > Import. Double-click at your Photo and select lasso tool. In Properties Tab, set Feather : 10 and make your cuttings as your imagination leads you (see image below for example)


    When make a selection, pust Delete button and the Canvas Color will be shown. Continue with all the edges.

    Here is an example of the effect

    I tried at first without anti-alias or feather but I was not a good result. Is the title of tutorial so important. Relax all!
    I will change it to see if anyone find anything else unimportant to tell...
