    A small but irritating problem with IE6: I've set a layer to 100% width, but IE6 refuses to display it as 100%. Mozilla 1.1 has no problem with it, just IE6.

    This screen shot shows the error: http://www.wildbytes.biz/images/css100.gif

    The orange band should extend completely over to the left side (to the beginning of "copyright"), but it won't.

    The CSS code:

    div#header {position: absolute; z-index: 105; top: 0px; right: 0px; background: #F6B555; text-align: right; width: 110%; padding: 10px 15px 4px 0; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, san-serif; font-size: 14px; color: #FADAAA; font-weight: bold;}

    I have found a solution: set the width to 110%, and it works, but I'd still like to know why it doesn't at 100%.

    Any one with ideas?

    Well you have a padding; IE may be interpreting it as spacing. Only thing that comes to mind

    I'd have to agree with filburt. Padding is interpreted differently in IE.

    You may also want to try this in your stylesheet:

    BODY {
    margin-top: 0px;
    margin-left: 0px;
    margin-right: 0px;
    margin-bottom: 0px;
    }

    The margin-right is the only one that matters in your case, though.

    Removing the padding makes no difference - that was my first thought also.

    Game's suggestion of adding "margin: 0" to the body tag works - thanks :classic: (even though the "width: 110%" worked, it just looked odd)

    The margin-right is the only one that matters in your case, though.
    Actually, it needed both the left and right margins set to zero - setting only one resulted in the whitespace being cut by half.

    So what you're saying is that I was kind of sort of half almost right, right?

    Glad it worked for you.
