I did this a couple of weeks ago with some simple CSS (and it even worked in IE for me) but now for the life of me I can't remember how I did it

I want the logo and emporer images on the left hand side of my site to stay put while the rest scrolls

    Tincture

I've discovered css classes in Dreamweaver and it seems easy - I'm sure there must be a way to do this by applying a class to the images. Any tips on how to do it?

    Best Regards

You could just combine the images and have them as a background in the table cell on the left hand side - allowing you to use the background-attachment:fixed; property. I would recommend letting the image stay as it is though, as scrolling images are more often than not disorientating and distracting for a user.

Ok I'll take that into consideration - you are probably right. It's just that on long pages I end up with a big empty scrolling black bar....seems almost as strange looking
