OK - I'm doing my first bit of coding with Stylesheets and am trying to do what I think is a pretty basic layout, but Im getting all sorts of problems with Internet Explorer.

Basically, I want a left hand menu, and then a content area to the right which stretches to fill the screen. This, I've got working fine, but problems occur when I want a table to stretch and fill the content area. This is easy in Mozilla etc - http://beerisforwinners.com/styles/tablewidth.htm, but breaks in IE 6.0.

I found two ways to fix this - one was making the table width 99%, but the better way was to have the width of the first cell to be set to 100% via an inline style - http://beerisforwinners.com/styles/cellwidth.htm. Trouble is, it seems that IE 5.5 takes the width to be the width of the page, not the width of the div and You get the same effect as the first page above, but with a horizontal scrollbar....!?$!!

I've been searching around, what I'm trying to do seems so basic that I can't find a solution..... apologies if it's something which has been covered before!

Couple of other points - I'm not able to use any sort of non-accesible tricks like using javascript to resize things, I'm trying to make a page AA WAI approved, (http://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG1AA-Conformance). Here is an example of the current layout of the actual site I'm working on which breaks in IE 5.5, (unfortunately the most opular version used by visitors..) - http://www.elmbridge.gov.uk/atoz/default.asp?var_az=a

    EDIT
    ----
Never mind, the fiddle using a style to set the cell width to 100pc does actually work in IE5.5..... bah!
