Referencing Directories in CSS

I'm afraid I don't know the jargon for this, so I'll just use an example. I'm sure it's all pretty simple, I just haven't come across it before.

Say I have a website xyz.com that has three seperate directory / areas: xyz.com/1/ xyz.com/2/ and xyz.com/3/. How do I reference the images, master css file, etc that are in a seperate folder?

@import "/1/file.css";
@import url(/1/file.css);
</style>

Just replace with your filenames of course.

Edit: Either one will work, you don't need both.

ok, great - thanks, fallout.

So how would you reference a picture that is in the /images folder from an html file in the /1 folder, for example?

Using "../" should go up one dir, so then add the "images" folder name after that
