I have seen sites with the page background a gradient (light to dark vertically), and I wanted to know if it could be done with css. I think I saw it in css somewhere, but for some reason I remember it being some proprietary IE css.

Also, I could use a 1px image and have it repeat horizontally, but this is a problem because of varying resolutions. If I did it using an image, should I make the image 1600px high, so anyone using 1600x1200 wont have the gradient repeat itself 3/4 down the page. Please tell me the best solution, thanks!

Maybe you should just create a 1px vertical gradient that only goes partway down the screen, an use background: no-repeat; to make it not repeat.
I don't understand why you would want a full gradient as a page background anyway.

True enough. I can try that. So if I wanted to go from top - light to bottom - dark, I would have the gradient image at the top of the page, then set the background colour as the darker colour of the gradient?

Yes, that's how you would do it.
