I'm trying to figure out how to do a site-wide search and replace with the following parameters

The beginning is always the same (www.mysite.com)

The middle is always different (somerandomfilename)

The end is always the same (.html)

I need to change all the .html to .php without changing .html's that aren't part of the standard domain (www.mysite.com)

Note: I'm using Homesite 5 and know how to do the site wide part just not the regular expressions needed to do this.

Ooh, ooh, I've got just the thing.

Type in "EditPad Lite" into Google. You'll end up with a link to a site offering EditPad Lite. This can open up multiple files and allow you to change what you want in multiple files.

As for changing "all the .html to .php without changing .html's that aren't part of the standard domain (www.mysite.com)", I'm not entirely sure how you can do that.

Eeek. It depends. Usually you can do www.mysite.com/*.html, but the replace is the annoying part. Regular expressions often allow you to get a part of the match in some form or another (I've forgotten since the last time I used them). You should look this up in the Homesite documentation to see if you can do it. If not... :-/

    the answer

I eventually found the answer though it is not clearly explained in the Homesite documentation. I ended up switching to Dreamweaver for a moment because for some reason the search wasn't finding anything with Homesite. I'll post both answers below in case someone else is looking for the the same problem

    Dreamweaver works like this:

    Find: http://www\.mysite\.com(.*)\.html

    Replace: http://www.mysite.com?1.php

    And Homesite works like this:

    Find: http://www\.mysite\.com(.{4,12}?)\.html

    Replace: http://www.mysite.com\1.php

Hope that helps someone else, because I ended up paying someone for the answer.
