    hi all,

    i got a problem..
iv got a list and some <p>'s in a div.

for semantics, i want the list to appear after the paras, the list is examples of work.

but visually, i want the list on the left of the p's.

i can achieve this with floats if i put the list before the <p> but this isnt semantically correct to me.

    heres what im talking about

    example 1.
this is how i want the page to look with the list on the left but is semanticaly wrong becasue the list appears before the describing paragraphs.

    example 2.
this is how i want the source to be written but as you can see, the list while still floated appears a lot lower.. its quite wierd how the top of the list is inline with the top of the last <p>

    thanks everyone

So you want to code the list after the <p></p>'s?

You could do using position: absolute.

    If I understand you correctly?

I'm trying to figure out why it's bad that the list appears before
the <p>'s in your HTML file ... why does it matter?

In fact, the list of things should be in one <div> and the content
with all the <p>paragraphs should be in another <div>.

I stuck it in this old example page I had laying around ...

i agree with what you have done is fine, but
i have another list in a separate div on the left that forms the navigation.

the reason i want the list of images after the paragraphs is for semantic reasons. (for the structure of the content and its readability when viewd by *accessible* devices.

i have however figured it out (with a little help from a friend)

floated items align their tops with the top of the previous block level element. hence aligning to the top of the last <p>. So i wrapped all the <p>'s in a div and floated that right.. then floated the list right too and hey presto... URL to follow

    thanks all
