    Hi all,

    I'm having a problem - now there's a surprise! - with the positioning of the main area I use for text on the website I'm currently working on:-

    http://www.preserved-railways.net

    No matter what I do I can't get the bottom of the text area to line up the way I'd like it to I'd like a small area, around 20-25 pixels tall, at the bottom of the screen in which to write the site copyright notice using css positioning. In Opera I get a wide area at the bottom of the text area and in IE and Firefox the text area goes right to the bottom of the page. Any idea on how I can achieve because it's got me stumped? The current css file is:-

    /* CSS Document */
    body,td,th {
    font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", Times, serif;
    font-size: small;
    color: #FFFFFF;
    background-color: #006600;
    }
    #header {
    position: absolute;
    left: 0px;
    top: 0px;
    width: 100%;
    background-image: url(../Images/RoofFascia1.gif);
    background-repeat: repeat-x;
    }
    #navlist {
    color: white;
    background-color: #006600;
    padding: 5px;
    list-style-type: none;
    margin-top: 185px;
    margin-left: 0px;
    }
    #navlist a {
    display: block;
    color: white;
    background-color: black;
    text-decoration: none;
    padding-left: 7px;
    border-bottom: 1px solid #006600;
    border-top: 1px solid #006600;
    width: 188px;
    }
    #navlist a:hover {
    color: red;
    background-color: black;
    }
    #navlist a:active {
    color: green;
    background-color: black;
    }
    #maintextarea {
    color: #003300;
    background-color: white;
    background-image: url(../Images/TrainBackgroundTrans.jpg);
    background-repeat: no-repeat;
    background-position: center;
    padding: 5px;
    position: absolute;
    top: 190px;
    left: 215px;
    margin-right: 15px;
    }
    #ImagePlacingRight {
    float: right;
    padding: 5px;
    width: 200px;
    text-align: center;
    color: red;
    }

    Cheers.

    Hi ShaunMac,

    I don't see any copyright info at all.

    Also, are you having problems in all the browsers or just Opera?

    Hi DCScene,

    That's because I've removed the copyright text temporarily as I couldn't get the margins/border of the text area to do what I wanted to do.

    I get the problem in Opera, Firefox & Internet Explorer. In Opera I get an extremely big/deep margin/border at the bottom of the screen. In Firefox and Internet Explorer I get no border. I'm sure it can be done the way I'd like it to be done - a border/margin at the bottom of the screen big enough just to put some copyright text in - so I must be doing something wrong in my css definition but just can't work out what.

    It's kind of hard to help with a problem I can't see. Do you have a testing server or another directory where you can put all the stuff up? Take out the statcounter of course!

    An aside about Opera... I won't be able to help you there. I've never had to acommodate for it. In fact over 18 months, we had one hit from an Opera browser where I work.

    Hi DCScene,

    I have to accomodate for Opera as it accounts for 17% of my traffic. I don't have a testing server. What do you need? A page with all the code bar the statcounter stuff? If so, then there's a website test page:-

    http://www.preserved-railways.net/WebsiteTestPage.htm

    the CSS file is at:-

    http://www.preserved-railways.net/CSS/ShaunsPR.css

    But I still have a problem with both Firefox and IE where I can't define a margin to fit my copyright text in.
