Menu pushed down after adding division

Hi,

I want to embed a few south park youtube videos on my page without messing up the design but when I try to add the two videos in a division, it pushes my right menu down with the other content. My menu seems to want to follow the text article content and not stay right next to the two videos I want to add...I'm not sure why it's doing this...I have a test page set up (this is not the page the videos will saty on...just using it to test until I have it working properly)....

Can anyone see what's wrong? ...Thanks.

when you do a css-based layout make sure the div tags are tabbed correctly. It will help greatly when trying to read it. Your div with the id #youtube has the display css property set to block (by default), you need to change that to inline in your css file (styled.css).

Try moving everything within and including this div: <div id="player" >

to ...

The spot right after: <div id="articles">

so that it's like:

<div id="content_bottom">

<div id="articles">

<div id="player">
blah blah ... all of the embedded video here ...
</div>

articles here ...
</div>

<div id="nav">

.
.
.

Are you sure you didn't confuse the contents of <div id="player"> with <div id="youtube">?

I ask because, I'm pretty sure if I do what you're suggesting, the page will completely lose its format.

freeTheInternet, I changed the display property to "inline", as you suggested.

I could have ...

The point I think I was trying to make...

Your nav menu is in the "content_bottom" section,
but the video part is not. So, the nav can never be
to the right of the video.

actually, i did get the menu to go where I wanted by just moving it but I think I have a more difficult problem with the page...

what was initially odd was when i tried to add the new div with the south park videos into the "content_bottom" division, the articles, which are in php code, didn't want to sit under my new division...so i had to move the menu to fix it...instead of just putting the new div within the "content_bottom" div...

however...now i can tell, no matter which div i put the side content within (that's the menu, the adsense wide skyscraper, the cafe press banner and links, etc..) there is going to be a space between the php coded articles and the div i have the south park videos in...

i could move the lower content up and thus reduce the space between the menu and adsense skyscraper on the right side by shrinking the size of the south park video players but... i really like to know why the browser is making a big deal between the "youtube" div i made and the div with the php rss feed generated content..

it's a bitch... :)

This is a personal opinion, but I really think you have too much information
on one page. The content is overwhelming and takes a long time to load.

If you were to take the first few lines of each item and do a,
.... more info kind of thing.

The full-size articles would be displayed using a PHP script that opens
a new window with the full article.

Your Google-Ad box in the upper right looks too prominent.
I realize you probably need ads to help support the site, but it
shouldn't be more important than your content.

I think you could really streamline your site and make it something
people would be interested in reading. It's too much now.

I think I went wrong with embeding the two south park videos...that's probably why the page is loading too slowly...

It's odd that you say that there's too much content and it's slowing down my site because I know there are sites out there like - bartcop.com and http://www.crooksandliars.com , for instance - that have a lot more content than me and they load just fine for me. So it's strange that my page would require much of a wait...

I have been looking at replacing that adsense ad with a poll but I lost the site I was going to use for it... though that ad does get me clicks pretty much every day...
