    This is the Doctype at the top of the HTML page.
    HTML Code:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

    Vertical-align is one of those anomolies in css, in that different browser companies put there own spin on it. According to w3c the vertical-align is supposed to align block elements like images to relative to the parent element. So that if you use vertical-align:text-bottom then it would align the image to the text baseline of the parent element, which in your case is a tabel cell. Theoretically it should not affect the alignment of the text in the cell, because that's not what it's for; however Microsoft as usual don't agree. Read the following for more information.

    End of Line.
