    hey all,
I was wondering if something like this was possible...

    Example Image

Is it possible to create a map or something where I could click on individual states?
Like how would i separate them accurately by the borderline?

imagemap with polygon/circle shapes springs to mind

    http://www.w3schools.com/js/js_image_maps.asp

you might not be able to seperate by the borders EXACTLY but you could fiddle around with it, see how close you could get it.....

They're called imagemaps. The easiest way to make them would be via a What You See Is What You Get editor like Dreamweaver (a few DW users will pop up in the next hour, they can explain a lot better than I can). Nowadays, however, it's also common to do them via Flash.

For that you'll have to dive into AJAX, which allows refreshing of certain page elements without refreshing the entire page. Dragging in a frame, however, might be a bit simpler (with a JS library), unless you want zooming link google maps have, then you need AJAX.

You might as well use Flash. Google maps use AJAX to accomodate non-flash users and allow dynamic interaction with external elements (search forms, etc).
