I have created a horizontal list to work as a menu. This list has a small line to separate each menu item. Something like this: Home | About Us | Contact.

This line is added to my css as a background image for each link.

My problem is that the first item (Home) is also displaying a line to the left of it so now the menu looks something like this: | Home | About Us | Contact.

Is there any way to remove the background image from the first link on the menu?

Not unless you apply a special class to it and do it there. Something like `first-link'. Using CSS selectors, you could use the [minicode]::first-child[/minicode] pseudoclass, but naturally, IE doesn't support it.
