Most of us don't edit our sites online. We build our own websites using
Notepad (from scratch) and handle all of the file upload/download using FTP.

So, we have webhosts, but only for hosting our files and databases.

    Someone just discussed this recently:

Build your own site online. But I use for hosting that is
only $35/year. Bandzoogle is sort of expensive.

Also web-based editing systems are usual far more restrictive then what you can accomplish by uploading files. Many hosting companies can get you nice storage and bandwidth (often in the scale of several gigs of storage and a hundred times or so of bandwidth) for $5-10 a month. They'll usually do for whatever need you have in mind. You can also get less expensive packages for less resources.
