    I'm very new to css and I'm having a bit of trouble making two colunms of a 12 item list. How would you do it?

    Can you describe what you want in more detail?

    Do you want two columns, both with 12 list items in them both, or 2 columns with 6 in each?

    I'd like to make two colunms from 12 items. Yes, 6 items in one, and 6 items in the other.

    What you have there is tabular data ..
    Don't be afraid to use <table> for that.
    That's what tables are designed for.

    <div>
    <table cellpadding='3' cellspacing='3'>
    <tr>
    <td>Item 1</td>
    <td>Item 7</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td>Item 2</td>
    <td>Item 8</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td>Item 3</td>
    <td>Item 9</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td>Item 4</td>
    <td>Item 10</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td>Item 5</td>
    <td>Item 11</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td>Item 6</td>
    <td>Item 12</td>
    </tr>
    </table>
    </div>

    Well, if it is a bulleted list that needs to be laid out in two columns, rather than data that is classified in two different ways, it is still list data.

    In this case, the best approach is to float: left all lis and give them a width that will ensure that they will wrap after two lis.

    For example, if the lis are in a 40em container, you would give the lis a width of 19em or so, so that only two fit on one line. And you would float them left so that they will sit next to each other.
