I am new to this world so please be patient with me. Anyway, I am a director of Education at a school in Columbus, Ohio. We have a website which absolutely stinks. Well, I want to modify it, etc. The host of the website sent me the ip address and I have the user name and password so that I will be able to modify the website but I don't know how to get 'behind the scenes' to modify the website. How do I use the ip address, etc. to get behind the scenes to update the website? Any help will be greately appreciated.

Hi richal, in my experience of hosting sites they usually have a main website where users/members can login I know this sounds dumb but have you tried visting the hosting site and using your login details there? As this will give you access to the uploaded files.

The ip address can be used to FTp into the website and edit/upload/delete files from there.

    Have a look at http://www.ftpplanet.com/ftpresources/basics.htm

You'll use an FTP program (like Filezilla ... which is free) to connect
to the files on your webhost server. It will open a window on the
left (your PC hard drive), and a window on the right (your website files).
You then transfer files back and forth (drag drop, etc).

Most of use do web pages by hand, so we use Notepad to make changes,
copy them over and view it on our browser(s) online. Most of use design
using FireFox and then adjust for IE, checking progress using both browsers.
