    For a client of mine, they have a page where a video is displayed and can be watched. Below them, they want to have "thumbnails" if you like, which when clicked on will change the video in the main area.

    I have wrapped the object / embed code in suitable <a></a> tags with a href = # (for testing) with an onclick call to a JS function. That function never fires, when I click on a video it just plays in the small thumbnail spot and not the larger viewing area.

    So, in short: How do I

    A) Stop the video from playing when clicked on (I know this is the standard behaviour but...)
    B) Get the <a></a> to actually work.

    The reason why I am using <object> and <embed> is because the client wants to see an image of the video and not just a textual link, the object and embed do that out of the box.

    HTML Code:
    <div><a href="" onclick="javascript: func();"><object width="100" height="100"><param name="movie" value=""></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="false"></param><embed src="" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="false" width="100" height="100"></embed></a></object></div>
