    I've seen on Flash sites an effect where if you click something, say, it enlarges into the foreground and the whole page behind it blurs out. I was wondering if there is some way to do this with HTML/CSS/JS - or basically anything that's not Flash. It's very hard to Google for because it thinks that I'm looking for the blur() event!

    There are quite a few lightbox scripts, too. Various ones for different libraries (jQuery, Prototype, mootools) and standalone ones like the original. Worth shopping around for the one that has the look you prefer.

    you can create this effect with javascript also, but only professional web designer will be able to handle it.
