    Hi, I have been using the satay method to have flash embedded, but still comply with XHTML 1.1 Strict standards.

    I have done this successfully with one of my objects by
    1) stripping the embed tags
    2) adding a data attribute to the object tag (the data attribute value was equal to the movie param value)

    However, this isnt working with my 2nd object.
    HTML Code:
    <object id="obj_1233982941390" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://alldeathnote.chatango.com/group">
    <param name="movie" value="http://alldeathnote.chatango.com/group"/>
    <param name="wmode" value="transparent"/>
    <param name="AllowScriptAccess" value="always"/>
    <param name="AllowNetworking" value="all"/>
    <param name="AllowFullScreen" value="true"/>
    <param name="flashvars" value="cid=1233982941390&amp;a=000000&amp;b=100&amp;c=999999&amp;d=848484&amp;e=000000&amp;g=CCCCCC&amp;h=333333&amp;i=29&amp;j=CCCCCC&amp;k=666666&amp;l=333333&amp;m=000000&amp;n=CCCCCC&amp;s=1&amp;v=0&amp;w=0&amp;ab=0"/>
    </object>
    Ive ALSO tried changing the object tag to
    HTML Code:
    <object id="obj_1233982941390" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://alldeathnote.chatango.com/group?cid=1233982941390&amp;a=000000&amp;b=100&amp;c=999999&amp;d=848484&amp;e=000000&amp;g=CCCCCC&amp;h=333333&amp;i=29&amp;j=CCCCCC&amp;k=666666&amp;l=333333&amp;m=000000&amp;n=CCCCCC&amp;s=1&amp;v=0&amp;w=0&amp;ab=0">
    but this doesnt work.
    Any ideas, suggestions?

    Can't strip out the <embed> - it's required for some browsers to render the flash object. (older FF browsers?).

    If you must be XHTML-compliant, I would suggest that you use Javascript + DOM to dynamically load the Flash into the page.

    Hmm all that work JUST to be xhtml compliant..sigh
    Which FF browser versions dont support the object tag?

    Anyways, I guess i need to look into JS solutions, i came across a swfloader by google, might look @ it.

    I think <= 1.0. Also, older Safari browsers and anything Mozilla pre-Firefox will have issues with it. Not sure what else does, but nothing mainstream that I'm aware of.

    Generally speaking, if you want solid compatibility with your SWFs, you won't be able to directly drop a tag into your HTML and keep it XHTML 1.1 compliant. As smoseley mentioned, JS is the way to get around that. SWFLoader, SWFObject, and the jQuery Flash plugin are all good solutions for this.
