    Hi people

    Not so long ago i posted about the following site and asked what it looked like in IE (as a mac user i dont have it..)

    www.ameliealden.com/stf/test

    I got told here that it works fine in ie6, 7 and 8.. but have recently seen it doesnt work! Its a bit dodgy on IE6, the persons laptop i saw it on has ie7, and its also wrong in ie8 apparently.

    the things that are wrong are:
    a) quick contact tab: is transparent in background
    b) navigation menu - the heading at the top "CONTACT ME" has ended up on 2 lines .... CONTACT
    ME
    c) on the homepage, there are rotating grey quotes. in IE they sort of 'overlap' the page to then be centered to the right..

    Can anyone help me out with this? I've tried to add a seperate stylesheet for IE but cant work out what rules to add..or whether this is correct to add - I see no difference

    <!--[if IE]>
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="my-IE-stylesheet.css" />
    <![endif]-->

    <![if !IE]>
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="my-main-stylesheet.css" />
    <![endif]>

    Any help much appreciated as its a bit urgent

    The contact thing is because the width of your menu line exceeds the width of
    the container. Try this first ... lessen the padding for the menu classes (right and left).
    Example:
    #menu ul li {
    padding: 0 14px 0 0;

    }

    Make it:

    #menu ul li {
    padding: 0 7px 0 0;

    }

    Any other places, do that also. Reduce left and right padding just enough to
    keep the menu bar from overflowing.

    Thanks for the quick reply

    Are we talking IE only here? On my firefox (3.5.5) it looks fine, and on Safari also (version 4.0.3)

    If i'm correct in seeing the site works in those two, reducing padding in the main stylesheet would therefore make it look a bit weird in these 2 browsers..

    Do I set up a seperate IE stylesheet? Im not too sure how to actualy use 'if IE'...

    Emma ...

    I saw the same thing on both IE8 and FF ...
    The "contact me" thing was dropped on the line below ... on both browsers.

    If it were me doing your site, I would not have any IE hacks or IE (if statements).
    You'll never get ahead of the IE problems, so don't worry about them.
    Code it for FF, and then focus on the parts that fail for IE (all versions).
    There is usually a way to get around them without using hacks.
