    In Firefox, looks fine in Internet explorer 8 where text is the blue background.
    how to fix?

    The whole point about using CSS for defining the "style", is that you don't use
    any <font> tags or "bgcolor" properties within your HTML. Everything is defined
    within the CSS tags.

    So, there is such a mix of CSS and HTML defined styles, that IE must be confused
    at some point. I can't quite find the spot, but eliminate all HTML style references
    and do your styling within your CSS.

    It's a very bizarre mix of CSS, HTML, tables ... hard to troubleshoot.
