You will have to re-size all your graphics, fonts size, div's widths etc. if you want to have your website display within your new resolution of 800 x 600.

At the moment, it sounds like you have changed nothing about the website and naturally you will have scroll bars showing to accommodate for the over-sized website for your screen.

    Hope this helps!

That is what you would expect since your site was designed for 1024 x 768. Please understand that you must design your site at the lowest resolution that you would expect the site users to have. These days nearly all the websites are designed at 1024 x 768 since there are very few people on the internet who have their computer set to 800 x 600. However if you think that your user base might have users that are using computers set at 800 x 600 you will need to redesign your site at that resolution to get rid of the horizontal scroll bars.
